Stroke Alert Screening - This appointment includes a discussion of stroke and its causes and a painless ultrasound screening to determine if there is narrowing in your carotid arteries. The screening is performed in the Vascular Laboratory and can also be performed at the work site at a reduced rate for groups of 30 or more people. Light Therapy Resources - Ongoing Call 503 261-6611 for more information. Here in the Northwest, many people are affected by what has been called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Symptoms can include depression, sleep problems, lack of energy and difficulty conncentrating that seems to be worse during the winter months. Fortunately, bright light therapy appears more beneficial than medications in treating many cases of SAD. The local chapter of the American Chronic Pain Association (ACPA) sponsors these free support groups. The ACPA is a non-profit, self-help group designed to teach people who suffer from chronic pain - pain that continues longer than six months and is not completely relieved by medication or medical treatment - to reduce the impact pain has on their working and personal lives. Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring (CAC) - Ongoing Call 503 251-6137 for more information. Obtain information about the location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries using CT scanning. CAC has been shown to predict coronary artery disease (CAD) events more accurately than standard risk factors, C reactive preotein and Framingham risk stratification.
